Dear NEHBC,

I hope you are well.

Our church family is in a Sunday morning LifeGroup emphasis. I want to tell you again that it is very, very important that you actively belong to a LifeGroup.

We are now regularly running 1,100 or more on Sunday mornings. It is the wisdom of God for a large flock to provide member care by organizing the sheep into manageable small groups (Exodus 18:13-23). In other words, if we are organized into small groups, we can see if a sheep has disappeared and attempt to rescue it. If we are organized into small groups, every sheep will be known personally by several other sheep who will rally around one another in time of need.

In our size church, any person not engaged with a LifeGroup is spiritually vulnerable. In the spirit of Proverbs 3:1-2 in which the father urged his son to listen to the father’s wisdom rather than learning from the school of hard knocks, I’m urging you to listen to our Heavenly Father’s wisdom and actively engage a LifeGroup. Don’t wait until you are in pain to wake up to the importance of belonging to a LifeGroup.

Here is my recommended matrix for finding a LifeGroup:

1. One who takes bible study seriously: true New Testament fellowship is rooted in the discussion of the Scriptures and Kingdom matters.

2. One who takes member care seriously: this is the primary purpose of LifeGroups.

3. One who likes to have fun together: where the Spirit is at work, the joy of the Lord is present.

4. One who has a strong leader: in every LifeGroup there are well-meaning people who inadvertently highjack the LifeGroup’s gatherings. For a LifeGroup to thrive, it requires a leader who will kindly but firmly keep the group on track and on mission.

BONUS: If you properly engage one of our LifeGroups for the purpose of giving and receiving member care, I promise you’ll make deep friendships along the way. God’s wisdom for making friends is to serve the Lord with other believers which in turn knits your hearts together in a supernatural way.

A roster of our LifeGroups can be found at the Welcome Center in our main lobby and is also listed below.

I love y’all,
