School Days 2002 - 2003

On September 8, 2002, Forest Cove Baptist Church, in Kingwood, Texas, planted Northeast Houston Baptist Church, by seeding 110 members and $250,000. This large sum of money was for the purpose of making the monthly payments on the $3.3 million loan the mother church had taken out to purchase a strategically located, 30 acre property and fund a 35,000 sq. ft. building. Without such a benevolent mother church, NEHBC would never have happened.

Led by Pastor Nathan Lino, this church of 110 people began meeting in Timbers Elementary School for Sunday morning worship. Every Saturday, two men would rent a U-Haul truck, and on Sundays at 7 a.m., 10 people would meet at a local storage facility to load up NEHBC's sound system, chairs, and preschool equipment. Waiting at the elementary school at 8 a.m. was the rest of the church body who would unload the U-Haul, set up the gymnasium for worship, and a hallway for preschool ministry. After our worship service, we packed everything back into the U-Haul, unpacked it all into the storage shed, and returned the U-Haul. This happened every Sunday, hot or cold, rain or shine . . . and we loved it!
